IN THE DAWN OF THE NIGHT * PROTECT THE KING

Set in a reimagined 20th century, Lisbon, the citizens are filled with fear as several eerie killings have taken place recently. The unknown perpetrators leave just one message behind, “We want your king”. Shaken with fear, King Carlos I calls together the nation and his royal guard of archers to aid him in the locating and capture of these assassins, however, unbeknownst to him, the perpetrators are right under his nose.

The knights and citizens must now work together to snuff out the assassins and prevent the eventual collapse of the nation.

Game Mechanics:

Roles: Players are given roles in secret, either the King, Knight, Assassin, or Commoner. One player is an observer and moderates the game without participating in play.

Role Cards and Point Cards: Role cards determine the player’s role and abilities, point cards determine their attack and defence power during night time.

DayTime (Discussion Round): Players discuss and vote to eliminate suspected assassins.

NightTime (Point Play): The assassins choose targets, and players defend themselves with point cards. Points are collated to see if targeted players survive the attack.

Rules: The players choose an observer and the role cards are distributed in secret. Once the game begins, each player draws 5 point cards, every player draws 1 card every 2 rounds, when a player runs out of cards, they can draw 5 cards again. During daytime the players discuss amongst each other and vote out whoever they suspect to be the assassin and during night-time, every player must pick a card to play and play it facing down, every player must then cover their eyes, upon which the observer will flip over everyone's cards and then asks the assassins to open their eyes and choose a player to kill, after that, the observer will ask if the knight wants to use his one time ability to eliminate someone, the observer then checks the points and determines whether the player will die or not.

Blending historical intrigue with elements of fantasy, Shadows of the Crown offers unique gameplay with a mix of social deduction, where every player must be observant of their surroundings and uncover the hidden traitors and team cooperation, where the players under the loyalist roles must work together to battle those under the saboteur roles.
